Dr. Bastien Chevreux

I am an experienced data science and strategy professional of in the areas of medical informatics, computational biology, and IT with over 20 years of experience in industries like biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, consumer health, and life sciences. I graduated in Medical Informatics (Dipl.-Inform. Med.) at the University of Heidelberg and got my doctorate (Dr. sc. hum.) from the Medical Faculty, writing my dissertation at the German Cancer Research Centre in Heidelberg.

My specialty and core competences lie in driving strategic decisions by integrating data-driven discovery using data analysis methods such as machine learning and AI. My broad knowledge base — and the ability to delve deep into specialised areas when necessary — allows me to connect stakeholders across various levels of expertise, knowledge and organisational hierarchies; actively driving forward projects with tangible outcomes.

I have a strong track record of significantly contributing hands-on to the success of complex R&D with significant outcome and commercial projects with substantial financial impact. My proven abilities include leading and co-leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects.

My work has resulted in significant advancements in the field, with over 20 biotechnology patents and numerous peer-reviewed, high-impact publications, e.g. in Science Advances, Genome Research, and Nucleic Acids Research.

I believe in the power of open-source contributions and have developed - and maintained - the MIRA sequence data assembler as an open-source project, benefiting the global scientific community as well as companies working in this area.
